This super rare VL HDT Director belong's to Shane and is one of only 9 built by HDT. This is the HDT Model that sealed the split with Brock & Holden which makes it even more collectable. This particular car is build number
4221 and was built by HDT in February of 1988. Another point of interest with these cars is that Brock planned to export them to America and the original prototype (which was fitted with a T5, IRS and an LE kit) was taken to Europe and America for comparison against the equivalent rivals in the respective countries. Check the VL Director Fact File shortly (not yet) as there will soon be a copy of the articles on these comparisons.
Shane has owned this pristine rare Brock for 6 years and he has loved every minute of it (who wouldn't - Ed). Prior to the Director, Shane's ride was a V8 Brock Calais Sport, but not long after that he also bought a Walky, which was sold off to a mate in favour of the Brock. As Shane says, "I have always wanted a Director and I had seen this one in Unique Cars (where it is also currently advertised) and I purchased it straight away.
As mentioned, there was only 9 of these cars made and Shane just had to have it
Engine wise, the VL features a 304 with Billet Roller Cam, Roller Rockers and many more mods.
The previous owner had spent $12000 on the engine alone, so as you can imagine, it is no longer pushing out the standard amount of ponies. Gearbox is a 3 Speed Trimatic with a 2500rom high stall and spent gases are removed via a 3 inch stainless exhuast system. Wheels are 16 inch V5 Simmons as fitted from factory and these were originally colour coded, but have since been polished as you can see by the photos.
Inside the car, there is the standard Calais luxury items such as electric windows, mirrors and door locks and the interior has had the full HDT treatment including Recaro seats and Momo steering wheel and for some audio pleasure, there is now a Sony X-Plode Stereo system.
I'm sure you'll all agree this is one sweet looking car, made even more desireable by the history and rarity of these vehicles. Thanks to Shane for letting us feature the car on the site.
If you're interested in having you're own piece of HDT History, Shane is selling the car. You can reach him on 0418 980 649 to find out more information. |
